Music Monday

So Music Monday is here again, and I have to share this photo I asked Rob to take of Gabe's footprint in the sand here in Waikiki. And for the lyrics to go with it, today's selection is by the Dixie Chicks, who have phrased it better than I could have. Right before we left on vacation, Gabe had his first day of preschool. I woke up that morning surprised by my teariness. My little boy is growing up, and it makes me sad. Yesterday we did a trek to Sea Life Park, and Gabe kept jumping off the ledge of the aquarium tank into my arms, yelling "I'll never leave you!" I don't know where that came from, but every time he jumped I thought "One day you will leave, my love." Being a parent is the biggest love of your life, and at times the most heart-breaking, because when it comes down to it we spend all our time trying to prepare them for a life lived apart from us. It makes every moment more poingant, and every small step towards that so significant. So on Gabe's first morning of preschool, I woke up and snuck into his room, curled myself around him, and held on tight to my baby, who is no longer a baby. And when he woke up, I smiled when I wanted to cry, and told him "Guess what? You get to go to preschool today!"

They didn't have you where I come from
Never knew the best was yet to come
Life began when I saw your face
And I hear your laugh like a serenade

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

I slip in bed when you're asleep
To hold you close and feel your breath on me
Tomorrow there'll be so much to do
So tonight I'll drift in a dream with you

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

As you wander through this troubled world
In search of all things beautiful
You can close your eyes when you're miles away
And hear my voice like a serenade

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

For all the moms out there, may you enjoy these moments, in all their wonder and sadness, joy and tears.

Joyelle
