Grow Where you Are Planted

People are like dirt.
They can either nourish you and help you grow as a person
or they can stunt your growth and make you wilt and die.
Plato

I love both of these quotes, because they reflect two beliefs I have formed through my experiences. The first is that we are all responsible for our own growth as human beings. No matter where we come from or what we have been through, we can choose to create our reality now. There are some scars that never heal, but we can learn to if not love, at least accept those damaged parts of ourselves, and realize that they do not make us less of a human being.

Secondly, one of the most important aspects of creating our current reality is choosing to have good people around us. People who nurture us, believe in us, and accept us for who we are. This has not always been easy for me. Too often in the past, I let people in who were not good for me. But last year I cut the final tie that was holding me back, and I feel so free now.

I am trying to find myself this year, to Blossom into the fulness of who I am meant to be. Sometimes it feels like a struggle, and sometimes it is effortless, like slipping into a warm pool of water. It is an ongoing process of letting go, self acceptance, and exploration. I have moments of clarity, followed by long stretches of confusion. But then again, I guess that is just life.

  1. I love this post.

I think I'm in the process of re-assessing my relationships. It's hard, but liberating. But also hard, and easy, too. Like you said, maybe that is just life.
