Thankful Thursday: The Mommy Edition

Motherhood brings as much joy as ever,
but it still brings boredom, exhaustion, and sorrow too.
Nothing else ever will make you as happy or as sad, as proud or as tired,
for nothing is quite as hard as helping a person develop his own individuality
especially while you struggle to keep your own.
- Marguerite Kelly and Elia Parsons

Oh I love this quote about motherhood so much. It really captures the reality
so much better than most of the sappy and often sexist quotes out there about motherhood.
I wanted to have a Mommy edition of Thankful Thursday, but
not one that paints a rosy picture of it because let's be honest,
there are many days when it's really the hardest job ever.

So here is the keeping-it-real Mommy edition of Thankful Thursday:

1. So thankful for hugs, cuddles, smiles, and air kisses.
In the photo above, you can see Gavin is making his
kissy face. So adorable!

2. So thankful for time away from my children.
I have been adjusting to having Gavin in daycare
part time and I am discovering that there
is something really great about getting enough
time away to miss him.
It makes picking him up
at the end of the day something
I look forward to.

3. Thankful for an excuse to eat ice cream and candy
whenever I want to because, hey, it's a treat
for the kids!

4. Thankful for Gabe's drawings of dinosaurs, superheroes,
angry birds, robots and zombies. Love them!
Also, most of them end up in the recycling.
I can only keep so many.

5. Thankful for the reminder to laugh, to play,
to take life less seriously.
I need to be reminded, a lot.
Kids are good for that.

So if you are a mom or dad,
please join me today and let me know
what you love about being a parent!

  1. What I love about parenting is the opportunity to make mistakes and apologize to my kids for not being perfect. This lets them know right off the bat, this momma ain't perfect, she makes mistakes but when you own them and apologize and try to make it right things will be ok.

  2. I think that is so important too. Just a straight up I'm sorry with no buts or excuses.
