Reverb 10: Party and Web of Whimsy

December 9 – Party Prompt: Party. What social gathering rocked your socks off in 2010? Describe the people, music, food, drink, clothes, shenanigans. (Author: Shauna Reid)

It was a typical Friday night at the Gourment Gallery Cafe and Antique Shop. Long past closing time, the fairies arrived, alone and in pairs and tribes. There were goth fairies, hippie fairies, mod fairies and steampunk fairies. Every possible and impossible combination of hair and eye colour filled the room. Joyelle tuned in to the oldies station, and the party lasted until sunrise. They rocked to the tunes of Elvis, The Beatles, and Jerry Lee Lewis. To the average human eye, the only thing visible would be an occasional blur of semi-transparent colour, easily written off as a trick of the light.

The revels were wild and joyful. As the night wore on and it was time to wind down, the station changed to jazz, with Ella and Billie working their magic. Alone or in pairs or tribes, the gathering slowly dissipated, until all that was left behind was a suspicious turn of furniture or missing treat.

The Saturday morning staff had become convinced that the place was haunted, because of the constant state of disarray after the night's revelries. The gelato freezers were always slightly ajar, and some of the cookies and brownies always disappeared (fairies have quite a sweet tooth, you know). But since nothing valuable was ever missing, they wrote it off to their own wild imaginations, and never spoke aloud of their suspicions.

And so the weekly revels continued...
