Three Muses Show Time

Hello Blogland,

So Fairy #6 has been quite a diva, making this image a big pain in the butt to work on. It's kind of funny, because each new fairy I create has a lesson for me. I was getting very upset with her because she wasn't blending in to the background like the other fairies had. Finally, at 10:00 last night I realized. Hello, she's called Show-Off! She doesn't want to blend in, she wants to stand out! And that completely changed the way I approached the image. So here she is, for this week's Three Muses Challenge:

I wanted to share an amazing new site that I just discovered called Spring. It's a site for creative folks, with lots of inspiring posts from different artists. In particular, I wanted to share this post about secrets of creativity. Here is an excerpt:

What I've been thinking about a lot is how much pressure we all put on ourselves, and I think this applies when it comes to being creative. We struggle and think we have to be perfect. In trying to be creative, we think that we have to come up with something earth-shatteringly gorgeous/amazing/inspiring. And then we fail, because we're so intimidated that we don't even start.

This is the perfect message for me this week, since I have been struggling so much with Miss Show-Off.  Follow the link above to read the rest of the post and watch an amazing video of Elizabeth Gilbert discussing the creative muse. Elizabeth is a fantastic speaker, very engaging and entertaining. I love how she talks about separating the muse from the artist.

And speaking of creativity, I would love to hear your comments about where you find inspiration for your creativity. I am always looking for new sources of inspiration, and I find sometimes it comes in the most unusual places!

On that note, have a lovely Wednesday!

Joyelle

P.S. Just a reminder that this week's Music Monday "Fearless" challenge is open until Saturday night. I love to see your interpretations of these lyrics!

  1. As soon as I enlarged this Joyelle,I could tell you were right ..... this fairy is definitely an extrovert and a show off ..... but in a nice way. Brilliant piece and a great interpretation on this week's theme. Bravo.

  4. Wonderful fairy, show time-piece. She really looks as though she is enjoying herself.
Not sure where I find inspiration - probably looking at the work of others, such as yourself!

  5. What a joyful piece. If there weren't show-offs, there'd be no shows! Thanks for joining our challenge this week.

  6. She's a beauty , flirty and fun! I like your words as well how we often set ourselves up to be disappointed in our work rather than experiencing the joy in the creating of the art itself. Lovely post!
